Europa League Group Stage – Round 3: Bournemouth v Milan

Two wins on the bounce and 7 goals scored total, can Milan keep it rolling on their trip to England? Bournemouth hasn’t been exactly high-flying in the EPL but they’ve won both of their Europa matches, their first ever games and wins in European competitions. Seems like they’re sights are on a good European showing and surviving in the EPL. Let’s see if Milan can put a dent in those plans…

WHAT TO WATCH FOR:

BOURNEMOUTH
BOURNEMOUTH

I don’t know much about Bournemouth but I’ve known they rock our colors. To that point, they had a cool thread where they talk about this, and a tip of the hat to them for showing their respects. Very cool.

In terms of on the pitch, CF Evanilson…that’s it. That’s his whole name. Like Prince. Must be Brazilian (he is). Evanilson is their main guy. He’s got 6 g/a in league play and 1 goal in Europa. Winger Marcus Tavernier is their other offensive weapon, as he has 4 goals in league play. These will be the guys to worry about when they are in possession.

DM Alex Scott is their defensive workhorse in the midfield and their overall highest rated player. On the backline, CB António Silva is their best defender and LB Adrien Truffert leads the team in tackles.

For everyone wanting to see Cissé, he’s back in the starting lineup. Without a striker on the pitch to start, Milan will need him to flash those shooting boots.

Overall, it’s an odd lineup, which isn’t too surprising with Ramos out injured and now Chukwueze, but still. Not starting Camarda is an interesting choice as is starting Estupiñan. Bartesaghi played well last Europa game and had an assist to boot. With a lack of offensive firepower on the pitch for them, you would’ve thought Bartesaghi would’ve been the selection there. So, not super-enthused with what Amorim is doing out the gates.

Adding even more confusion to this lineup, FotMob has Jashari as a false 9 and RLC in the midfield whereas that’s almost certainly RLC as the striker/forward and Jashari will be back in his normal spot.

Some random and not all important facts:

  • Amorim has never beaten Bournemouth (2 draws and 1 loss)
  • Milan have only won 2 of their last 22 matches in England. The two wins? Versus ManU in 2005 and then again in 2023.

PREDICTION TIME

Ewww. Doesn’t look pretty to start. Could be a slog until the first subs come in. My position on Europa still hasn’t changed…I don’t really care about the competition, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want to see Milan win. Of course I do. I always want them to win. I just won’t really care if they drop points here aside from any media chatter it could generate.

Anyways…I’m hoping for a draw.

Forza Milan
