Matchday 35: Sassuolo v Milan

Milan are still fighting for a top 4 finish and a win today would go a long way towards securing that goal. But, a testy challenge awaits, as Milan travel to Sassuolo for a day fixture, a place where they’ve had mixed success over the last 10 or so years. Can Milan get it done today? If so, they’ll have to do it without Modrić, who’s out for the rest of the season after fracturing his cheekbone during last week’s match against Juventus. Time for Ardon Jashari to step up and show us what he’s got…

WHAT TO WATCH FOR:

Not a whole lot to say about this match. Milan can run hot and cold here, where they’ve had terrible defeats but also cliched Scudettos. The big news for me is Jashari getting the first of probably 4 straight games to show the Milan brass what he has as we head into the summer. This of course is due to Modrić getting injured last week and will miss the rest of the season. With both player and club having an option for next season, hard to know if last week was the last we’ll see him as a Milan player. But we’ll deal with that later in month.

For this game, at least for me, all eyes will be on Jashari. I’m on the record here of being a big fan. He’s got a skillset the team doesn’t have and can utilize, particularly his ball-carrying and vertical passing ability. We never know how Allegri is going to set these guys up, but all things being equal, I think he has what it takes to pull the strings for Milan.

Everything else will be the same most likely, with Allegri playing for the 0-1 win. So, for those of us in the states, pour yourself a cup of coffee and enjoy it because you’re not likely to get anything entertaining to watch.

PREDICTION TIME:

In the first matchup this season, these two teams drew 2-2 at the San Siro. A draw sounds about right today too, with each team scoring at least 1 most likely. Anyway, let’s hope for a win but prepare for some disappointment. Maybe Allegri will surprise us…

Forza Milan
