Coppa Italia – Round of 16: Lazio v Milan

Milan took home all 3 points against Lazio 5 days ago and now look to send Lazio home in the Coppa Italia in Rome. With lots of rotation and a Lazio likely looking for revenge after feeling wronged on a late VAR review that didn’t grant them a penalty (rightly so), today should be interesting…

WHAT TO WATCH FOR:

It was so fun last time, let’s do it again! Ok, Milan won and looked solid last weekend beating Lazio in league play, but as I mentioned in the post-match, it wasn’t some dominating performance that gives me undue confidence heading into this one. I think this one is going to be dicey.

Why? Well, we have some rotation and guys who haven’t been getting a ton of minutes the last couple of months (or even all season), are being called on to bring some quality to the pitch and get the win or at least keep it close so the guys who have been playing can come in and win it. This is includes Pulisic, who is on the bench, and Modrić, who is getting a much needed day off (he could clearly come on if needed but I’m sure Allegri would love to rest him for the whole thing).

This along with a motivated Lazio and playing in Rome, does make me wonder if Allegri sits back more and tries to sting them on the counter more than last weekend. I think it’s likely why Leão is out there and not Nkunku, at least along with the hope that maybe Pulisic can start next league match on Monday and give Leão a little rest. Either way, I’m excited to see Jashari get some minutes, as Allegri has him in Modrić’s role, and from the little we’ve seen, I think we’re going to approve of what he puts out on the pitch.

Predictions

Sit an absorb a motivated and hungry Lazio. Sting them on the counter. Move on to the next round of the Coppa. Done and done, right?…right?…

Forza Milan
