WHAT TO WATCH FOR:
The last time Milan played Bologna, it was in the Coppa Italia final. Bologna beat Milan, closed the back door Milan was trying to sneak in through to reach Europe, added a few more Coppa Italia matches this season because Coppa Italia winners don’t play before the round of 16, and got the last coaching staff fired. Now, we have Allegri, a bunch of new players (mostly midfielders), and apparently a desire to win every game 1-0.
Looking at this lineup, and yes I know RLC scored last game, but what’s the game plan here? Just try to win dead balls and corners and try to header-our-way-to-victory? Sigh, I feel this is what we’re going to get even when everyone is healthy. Basically 2, maybe 3 attackers, a bunch of ball-winners and DMs, and a snoozefest of a game. Is it better than losing? Sure. But there are other ways to go about this that could get you the same result.
As to what to expect, well I just mentioned that I can see Milan just playing for the opportunity to bang in some crosses from dead ball situations and utilize some of the height in the lineup. So there’s that and I don’t think much else. Maybe they’ll surprise me with Modrić advanced but I’m not holding my breath. As for Bologna, we know Italiano is crafty and we’ve seen him sit vs Milan last season and counter, and we’ve seen him press. Not sure how he’ll attack this Allegri-led Milan but we should know within the first 20 minutes.
PREDICTION TIME:
Maybe I’ll watch baseball if this turns into what I’m fearing. And yes, I would find baseball more enjoyable to watch than what this is shaping up to be. Don’t get me wrong, I hope we win, and yes I will watch despite my pontificating, because I hate myself, but I don’t have to like it!
