WHAT TO WATCH FOR:
Well, we’ve all seen the starting lineup. I was going to write something relatively in depth and talk about this but I’m going to keep it mostly short, especially since I can’t predict shit to start the season, LOL.
Fonseca looks lost and more importantly, we’ve seen this before: a coach who thinks he’s better and more impactful than the star players on the team. Marco Giampaolo ring a bell? Coaches come in, trying to prove themselves, and think they can impose their will on the team as if playing anyone on the team will do. There appears to be little conviction behind any decision (except that RLC is a must start, apparently) and little belief in the tactics and formation they’ve put forth.
I don’t know what’s going to happen today but if I could pick the starting lineup to start the season it would be this (based on who arrived, who left, and if 100% healthy):
Maignan
Royal-Tomor-Pavlovic-Theo
Fofana-Reijnders
Chukwueze-Pulisic-Leão
Morata
This is your most talented team. Start there and adjust as needed based on form, health, outcomes, etc. If you’re going to do what he’s doing…3 games in…then he better hope to be right or he’s never going to get to coach a top team ever again. Quite the risk for a guy who could still be coaching for another 20 years.
As for predictions…
Lisi says: We can’t keep a clean sheet. Neither can they. Both teams to score. Reijnders shots. Whoever comes on for Okafor to score late.
I don’t know. Maybe this works. Probably doesn’t. I’m just going to sit back and watch.
Forza Milan
