WHAT TO WATCH FOR:
Milan looked good vs Bologna last week but they weren’t perfect. Juric’s Torino can be a thorn in someone’s side so Milan better be ready for a fight. Here are a few things I’ll be looking for in today’s game:
- With Calabria surely starting again, I’ll be watching for how Milan compensates for his deficiencies, both intended and not. I felt last game the backline lost it’s shape too often as Thiaw shifted to his right to help Calabria. This meant Krunic stayed back to plug the hole in the middle but then that caused a gap between him/the backline and midfield, which Bologna exploited
- Does Milan continue to run through the right side during its offensive buildup? I think so as teams will continue to favor Leão’s side because…um, Leão is there. But if Juric decides to cut off Pulisic then look out. Should be lots of space for Leão. As I mentioned in the comments last game, this is affectionately known as, pick your poison
- Reijnders, Reijnders, Reijnders. Man was perfect passing last game but I want to see this man serve! If Torino does start to lean to their left to stop Pulisic, I’m expecting some well-played balls by Reijnders out to Leão into space to spring him. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a Leão brace today
- Will we get to see more of the bench today? I’m really curious to see Chukwueze more and I’m expecting Musah to come in at some point, maybe for Krunic. In fact, I hope it’s for Krunic. I think the kid could command that space
- Finally, and this relates somewhat to the first bullet up there: will Milan revert back to the 4-2-3-1 not in name but in execution? Last game there were lots of moments where the shape was exactly this and it looked intentional. With a good right winger now and Reijnders showing he has the skillset to run the CAM, boy…it could be what the doctor recommends to fight a stingy Juric-coached squad
