Preseason Podcast Primer!

As many of you know I’m a huge podcast junkie. Anytime I am driving, exercising, mowing the grass or doing any activity where my ears are free I am listening to a podcast. I listen to way too many to list here but I narrowed it down to my top 10 pods. Feel free to drop in some of your own favorites in the comments below!

ITALIAN PODS

The Italian Football Podcast

Hosted by Nima Tavelley Roodsari (Inter) and Carlo Gargonese (Juventus), The Italian Football Podcast is the BEST year round Serie A pod that you will find. Both Nima and Carlo are long time calcio experts that have worked for several different media outlets. Their passion for the game is only surpassed by their knowledge of it. Great guests, great insights and the occasional interview with players, coaches and execs. Their recent summer series of club specific deep dives are MUST listens. They are worth every penny of your Patreon membership but also deliver weekly free episodes for newcomers.

Serie A Sitdown

Hosted by Milanisti Frank Crivello and Richard Kharman, Serie A Sitdown is my favorite Serie A weekly wrap up show. They cover every game every week with keen insight into the mid table teams and lesser known players that should be on your radar. Frank has a keen eye for talent as well as always having a few gambling nuggets to share. With a rotating roster of excellent guests from week to week, the Sitdown brings a high quality perspective to the league. The weekly #WhoWonCalcioTwitter contest always brings out the best/worst in their listeners and followers.

Kicks and Picks Podcast

Speaking of hints and tips for gamblers out there…if you are not listening to the Kicks and Picks Podcast you are DOING IT WRONG. Great insight into the lines of the week in Italy but also those in England and other European leagues as well. Listen to these guys and LEARN. Who will score? Who will keep a clean sheet? Over/unders? How about an anytime goal scorer? All of it is covered here. They send out free stuff every week but also put out a lot more picks via their Patreon page. The tips will pay back your membership in no time!

CalcioCast

Hosted by Paramount Plus color man Matteo Bonetti and ESPNFC presenter Kay Murray, CalcioCast rounds out my top 4 of must listen Calcio pods. Kay and Matteo always bring the goods along with a behind-the-scenes insight into the league and its players. The episodes are only available through Patreon, although they do offer a few free episodes as well as Patreon only episodes which feature member Q and A’s. So, while this is a Patreon-only pod it is worth every penny!

EUROPEAN PODS

The Gabs and Juls Show

Hosted by Gab Marcotti and Julien Laurens, The Gabs and Juls Show is the best weekly European roundup show that you will find. They cover all corners of football in Europe and also dip into the big stories off the European continent as well. A rotating group of top notch guest hosts makes this a show not to be missed.

Football Ramble

The gold standard of daily football shows covering the EPL. Football Ramble provide great football coverage along with a fair bit of nonsense to boot. They not only feature daily coverage of the game but also have interview episodes and special at the match episodes. A rotating group of presenters and guests always keeps it fresh.

On the Continent

The European spinoff of the Football Ramble. On the Continentfeatures podcast legends Andy Brassell and Nicky Bandini and is hosted by Dotun ‘The Night Watchman’ Adebayo. All the European Leagues outside the EPL (Spain, Italy, Germany, Portugal, etc.) are covered on this show. The Top Brass and Bandini always deliver great insight into the goings on around Europe and weekly listener Q and A shows are always top notch. You also get weekly match of the week picks along with tips for what to eat while taking in the action.

World Football Phone-In

The Godfather of all pods as far as I am concerned. Hosted by Dotun Adebayo and featuring South American expert Tim Vickery, World Football Phone-In is the gold standard of live call in shows. You’ll get no better perspective on the history and sociology of the game but also keen insight into current events. I’ve been listening to this show for over 15 years and it never fails to deliver. It’s like taking a graduate level course in football without even realizing it.

Brazilian Shirt Name Podcast

Also hosted by Dotun and Tim, Brazilian Shirt Name Podcast picks a different game throughout history to examine not only its impact on the game but also its place in history and society. Each episode also features a special guest connected to the game and its significance. You can’t help but learn and gain a deeper appreciation for the game and its place in society with every episode. Consider this your beginner doctorate level course.

The Athletic Football Tactics Podcast

Tactics. Formations. In-swinging runs. Low blocks. High presses. If those words tickle your fancy, The Athletic Football Tactics Podcast is the pod for you. The current season preview taking place has been fantastic. This is an excellent pod for those out there interested in the technical and analytical aspects of the game.

Wrap Up

Those are my favorites folks. If they sound like your cup of tea definitely give them a go. You will not be let down.
