THOUGHTS

The scrappiness of Serie A was on full display last round and we’re already seeing it again this weekend with lots of middle table teams stealing points.

Milan have been very good of late versus Roma across all competitions, winning four and drawing only one in their last five versus the Giallorossi. But all of that means nothing and Milan should have this mindset most of all. I mentioned in the Milan-Salernitana post match ratings that I wouldn’t be surprised to see certain players get subbed out (particularly Theo) due to the high volume of games in the immediate future, and still think that, but I really do hope and expect Pioli to field the same team as last game. I think this is particularly important against a Mourinho-coached side since he prefers to sit back, defend, and then counter. One of the reasons Milan has played Mourinho’s Roma side so well these last 5 or so matchups is because it’s difficult to get behind Tomori and Kalulu in a counter attacking scheme. Let’s hope we continue to see the same thing with them two handling any Roma counter-attacking threat and Milan nabs all 3pts today.

Milan looked very focused vs Salernitana last game and they should be just as focused today having their first game back in the San Siro since early November. Leão, Brahim, and Tonali led the charge on Wednesday and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them all have great games today as well. And what of De Ketelaere? We saw some flashes last game of the player we all expected to get this year and hopefully it’s a sign of things to come.

So, I’m expecting the same starting lineup and I’m going with a 3-1 Milan win with goals from Leão, Brahim Diaz and Charles De Ketelaere…you read that right. The draught ends today.

Forza Milan
