WHAT TO WATCH FOR:

Another week and I wasn’t able to pull away to write a post match. This is now 3 straight games in a row! Maybe just maybe this upcoming week will be different. Oh well, thems are the breaks sometimes!

It was funny to see the reaction here at the Fossa after the Parma game, with many of you echoing of the same talking points I’ve been complaining about all season. The irony for me is that I thought Milan actually took a step in the right direction in that Parma game. Sure, maybe it was forced with RLC going down and Jashari coming in, but I thought Milan had more bite to them than we’ve seen a lot this season vs smaller sides. The progressive passing was up, and there were more vertical chances being taken. Where the problem crept up at was in the final third and specifically inside the box, as there just wasn’t any presence in there for Parma to worry about.

This leads us to the other half of the problem I’ve been b*tching about all season: Allegri just doesn’t get aggressive enough with his lineups and/or formation. Like at this point why did Milan even bring in Füllkrug this past January? Allegri doesn’t start him much less change the formation. It’s self-inflicted wound after self-inflicted wound.

The other thing I saw in the comments after the Parma game was people saying Milan isn’t talented enough to compete with Inter for the Scudetto. I completely disagree. Maybe Inter has a more talented roster top to bottom but it’s not more talented say maybe 12-13 players deep and that’s all you need in Milan’s case as they were only in one competition (essentially). It’s true Milan’s attackers have been injured a lot but Allegri wouldn’t have been playing an attacker-heavy lineup anyway so I’m not sure this is as big of factor as some of you make it out to be. The final reason I don’t believe this argument is that Milan’s problem has been against smaller clubs, not big clubs, and they don’t have a talent deficit vs those smaller sides. The problem is plainly tactics and aggressiveness, which is an Allegri problem. Unfortunately, I’m not going to hold my breath that Mad Max is going to make the adjustments necessary to right this particular issue.

Case in point, there is zero reason for Allegri not to start Leão, Pulisic, and Füllkrug together in this game. Zero. Is he afraid of a team that has won 4 games in the ensuing 25 since beating Milan? Is he scared of a team that hasn’t won in 12 straight games, earning only 4 points during this stretch? Is he shaking in his boots to go against a team who hasn’t won since December 7, 2025? When you see the likely lineup you’re going to be hard-pressed not to say “yes” to any of those questions.

PREDICTION TIME:

Milan should win but who the hell knows. Plus, with Inter sh*tting the bed in Champions League and can now focus on the domestic side of things, Allegri’s approach will only grow Milan’s deficit to the top of the table. Sigh…

Forza Milan
